2022 Power of Produce Children’s Program

The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market is excited to welcome back the Power of Produce (POP) Children’s Program for the 2022 season. This program will be run by Partridge Creek Farm, a non-profit organization based in Ishpeming, MI that is dedicated to building a healthy, prosperous, and empowered local community through food and wellness education.

The POP Program is a farmers market-based children's program, that seeks to teach children about fruits and vegetables, local food systems, and healthy food preparation through fun activities. Participants engage in the full farmers market experience by trying new foods, having conversations with farmers, and buying local produce. Fun weekly activities ranging from cooking demonstrations to farmers market scavenger hunts provide nutrition, food, agriculture, and exercise education to the children and families that participate each week. POP Club kids are encouraged to try new healthy foods and overcome picky eating through exposure to healthy food options in a fun and exciting environment.

Dates and Times

This eight-week program will run Saturdays from July 2 through August 20 during the Saturday Morning Farmers Market from 9-1 PM a the Marquette Commons.

How to Participate

There is no sign-up necessary, children between the ages of 2-12 are welcome to stop by the POP tent to participate in the weekly activity. POP participants receive a $2 voucher each week of participation to spend on the foods of their choice at the market. These vouchers also serve to empower kids, by giving them the purchasing power to buy from farmers and local vendors at the market.

Thank you to our Community!

Funding for this program was successfully raised by the Shared Ground Social Fundraising Dinner hosted at the end of May in collaboration with The Delft Bistro, Barrel and Beam, and the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market. Thank you to all the community members who showed up to support our local food system.
